I suspect that every once in a while, most women have the kind of day when they feel like everyone and everything in the universe is out to get them. And never is this sense of  impending doom and paranoia more likely to plague me than on a day that involves the DMV. From the four-hour wait to the sour young lady at the window who snarls at me menacingly, and speaks to me in a tone so harsh and condescending, it would make a houseplant wilt. She tells me I don't have all the requisite documentation for her to process my request, never you mind that I called ahead to ask for a list of everything I would need to bring along. I offer to wait at the window while the husband runs home to retrieve said document; after all, we live but a minute down the street. This summer has been significant for me in more ways than one.
